How Rancho Monterey Apartments was built
Rancho Monterey went up in 1995 on Robinson Drive, four hundred and thirty odd homes on eighteen acres, one of the later apartment communities finished on Tustin Ranch and among the largest.
It belongs to a family of apartment communities raised across Tustin Ranch under the Irvine Company's plan and given Spanish ranch names: Alisal, Maderas, Mariposa, Monterey, Santa Fe, Tierra and Veracruz. Monterey points at the California coast rather than at anything grown here. The naming was consistent because the developer was, and because the ground really had been a ranch.
