How Lake Summit was built
There is water at the top of these hills and it is the reason for the name. In April 1970, months before the first house was drawn, Anaheim dedicated a nine hundred and twenty million gallon reservoir and filtration plant on the Nohl Ranch hills. The streets here look toward it: Shorecrest, Creek Side, Park Rim, Ridgecrest, Scenic and View Point, with Lake Summit Drive running through the middle.
Anaheim Hills itself began on 30 October 1970, when Santa Anita Consolidated took deed to 4,200 acres of the ranch to build a planned community, and a Texaco Ventures joint venture took over the residential land in August 1971. The first neighborhood, Westridge, opened in July 1972, and the city bought a separate 300 acres for a golf course that Richard Bigler laid out and that opened the same year. Lake Summit is one of the attached home communities that went in between the larger lot tracts, a hundred and sixty eight addresses on thirty three acres with lots of about three thousand square feet and five shared pools. The bends in these streets are not an accident: Anaheim Hills was the first residential development anywhere to use landform grading, shaping the pads to the natural contour of the ridge instead of terracing it flat.
