How Prado Ridge Estate Homes was built
Prado is Spanish for meadow, and Prado Ridge is thirty six houses on thirty four acres at the quiet end of the Anaheim Hills program, with typical properties close to a full acre and twenty one pools among them. Avenida de Santiago and Via de Rosa run through it, and Serrano Avenue along the edge carries a Californio family name that turns up across this whole end of the county.
Anaheim Hills itself began on 30 October 1970, when Santa Anita Consolidated took deed to 4,200 acres of the ranch to build a planned community, and a Texaco Ventures joint venture took over the residential land in August 1971. The first neighborhood, Westridge, opened in July 1972, and the city bought a separate 300 acres for a golf course that Richard Bigler laid out and that opened the same year. Prado Ridge came late, its houses dated from 1983 through 2009 with 1986 the median year, and several went up one at a time rather than as a delivered tract. The mid 1980s were when the city annexed the Bauer, Oak Hills and Wallace ranches and added thirteen hundred acres to Anaheim Hills, and when nearly a thousand acres of the community went to public agencies to hold the slopes open. Larger lots on rolling ground are the whole point of this end of the hills, and the difference between an acre here and six thousand square feet down the road is the plan working as intended.
