            History

How Rocky Point - Nohl Ranch was built

Rocky Point keeps the ranch in its name and in its streets. Old Bucket Lane, Wishing Well Lane and Lamp Post Lane are farmyard objects; Olive Branch, Orange Creek and Pepper Creek are the trees that grew here; Shady Oak, Forest Glen, Mountain Glen and Sleepy Meadow describe the country. Ridge Gate and Valley Gate mark where the gates would have been. The whole list reads like an inventory of a working ranch, which is exactly what this was.

Anaheim Hills itself began on 30 October 1970, when Santa Anita Consolidated took deed to 4,200 acres of the ranch to build a planned community, and a Texaco Ventures joint venture took over the residential land in August 1971. The first neighborhood, Westridge, opened in July 1972, and the city bought a separate 300 acres for a golf course that Richard Bigler laid out and that opened the same year. Rocky Point is one of the bigger boundaries in the hills, eighty four acres and two hundred and twenty two homes built between 1977 and 1987 with 1978 the median year. A hundred and seven of them have a pool, which is close to one in two, and the lots average around eleven thousand seven hundred square feet.
