            Brea Vista

Ninety-nine homes on 11.9 acres at the La Habra edge, on seven courts named like a cast list, with a 1994 Kevin Christison bronze at the entry.

            Overview

            About Brea Vista

Brea Vista holds 99 addresses on 11.9 acres at the western edge of Brea. North Roscoe Street runs the spine with 22 homes and six short courts branch off it, each holding eleven to fifteen: Zachary, Shaffer, Bergman, Alexander, Allyson and Kinsler. The city's parcel layer counts 102 parcels inside the boundary, every one of them residential, on lots running to a median of 0.079 acres with structures to a median of 1,793 square feet and three bedrooms.

Transitions, a 1994 work by Kevin Charles Christison, stands inside the boundary. The general plan carries 8.3 acres here as Medium Density Residential and none of the community falls in an elevated fire class. Brea Vista is one of four Brea neighborhoods served by La Habra City Elementary and Fullerton Joint Union High rather than by Brea Olinda Unified, alongside Corsican Villas, Lake Park and Vallejo: Sierra Vista Elementary is 0.71 miles away with 467 students, Washington Middle 1.0 miles with 580, and La Habra High 2.12 miles with 1,881.

            History

            How Brea Vista was built

Brea Vista is one of the last infill projects. Ninety-nine homes went up between 1994 and 1996 on just under twelve acres, at about 1,793 square feet each on lots of roughly a thirteenth of an acre, which is small-lot detached housing rather than the ranch tracts of the 1960s that surround it.

The street names are personal rather than thematic. Alexander, Allyson, Bergman, Gatewood, Kinsler, Shaffer and Zachary all hang off Roscoe Street as short courts, a naming habit that tells you the builder was working a single block rather than laying out a village. A sculpture called Transitions by Kevin Charles Christison stands inside the boundary, one of more than 140 works in a public art collection the city began in 1975 and paid for out of private development rather than taxes.
