            Overview

            About Country Hills

Country Hills is the second largest community in Brea at 234.4 acres and the largest by address count, holding 1,341 addresses on 10.22 miles of street across sixty-two named roads. East Country Hills Road and North Associated Road carry 428 of those addresses between them. The parcel layer counts 971 parcels, 964 of them residential, and 472 of the addresses carry a unit designator, so the community mixes detached lots with attached and multifamily housing rather than running to one form. Lots go to a median of 0.121 acres and structures to a median of 2,020 square feet with three bedrooms.

Ten works from Brea's Art in Public Places collection stand inside the boundary, more than in any other community in the city: King Zimmerman's The Birds of 1975, Harold Pastorius's Wall Warp of 1976, Warped Cube of 1978 and Rock Wagon of 1979, Daniel J. Miller's Disc and Gerald Walburg's Two Plus One both from 1981, High Tech Totem by Jorg Dubin and Darrel Moore from 1987, Michael Anderson's Crossover of 1997 and Marker Monument of 2008, and Gared N. Smith's Water Tower. Country Hills Park sits inside the community at 180 North Associated Road, 6.21 lighted acres, and the tree inventory records 148 street trees. Brea Country Hills Elementary is 0.1 miles away with 498 students, Brea Olinda High 0.76 miles and Brea Junior High 1.37 miles.

            History

            How Country Hills was built

The city counts 1,341 addresses on 234 acres, with most of the homes built between 1976 and 1984 and a typical size around 2,020 square feet. It mixes detached houses with attached ones, and roughly a third of the addresses carry a unit number, so a buyer is choosing between two quite different products under one neighborhood name. Ponderosa Homes and Brock Homes were among the builders. Country Hills Park runs to just over six acres on North Associated Road.

The street names were chosen to sell the word country and they commit to it completely. Apple Blossom, Cattail, Daisy, Strawberry, Wildflower, Morningflower and Acorn sit beside Waterwheel, Longbranch, Ambling, Wandering and Winding, and Dapplegray is a horse's color. Two literary imports slipped in as well, Sleepy Hollow and Heathcliff, which is Wuthering Heights arriving in a north Orange County hill tract.
