The internal lanes are named for woods, thirteen of them: Cherrywood, Crestwood, Cottonwood, Dogwood, Elmwood, Fernwood, Pinewood, Ashwood, Basswood, Maplewood, Oakwood, Pepperwood and Rosewood, running across 2.03 miles of private road. The general plan carries 32.4 acres as Medium Density Residential and the zoning is R-2 throughout.

How Crestmont was built
Crestmont is a condominium community of 290 homes on thirty-three acres, addressed off a single entry road but laid out along sixteen lanes inside. About twenty-four of its acres fall in the state's Very High fire hazard class, which is what building against the Brea hills means, and small parts of it are touched by the city's landslide and liquefaction layers.
The lanes are a lumber yard. Ashwood, Basswood, Cherrywood, Cottonwood, Dogwood, Elmwood, Fernwood, Maplewood, Oakwood, Pepperwood, Pinewood, Rosewood, Sandlewood and Teakwood each take a real wood and add the same ending, so a resident giving directions has to say the first syllable clearly. Rosewood and teak are cabinet timbers rather than Californian trees, which tells you the list was written for the sound of it rather than for anything growing on the hill.
