How Village Niguel Gardens was built
The street names here are a period piece. Hyatt Court, Hilton Way, Ramada Court, Sahara Place, Newporter Way and Airporter Way form one run of eighteen streets inside a gated thirty acres, and the effect is a mid century hotel register laid over a condominium map. The community was built in 1989, the year Laguna Niguel incorporated.
Modern Laguna Niguel began in 1959 with the Laguna Niguel Corporation, formed by Cabot, Cabot & Forbes and Paine Webber, which hired the Viennese architect Victor Gruen to draw a 7,100 acre town plan. AVCO Community Developers took the corporation over in 1971. This is flat ground: the city's record records the same elevation, 232 feet, at every point inside the boundary, and drains all of it to Aliso Creek.
