How Indian Hills was built
Indian Hills is one of the neighborhoods inside Lake Forest II, the master association established in 1970 that covers 3,436 homes and runs the Sun and Sail Club. That association grew out of the development Occidental Petroleum started in the late 1960s, when it built houses in and around the eucalyptus groves at the center of the old ranch. Those groves and the city's two man-made lakes gave the future city both halves of its name.
Indian Hills holds 231 homes on 40 acres and fifteen streets, with a median lot of 6,938 square feet, ninth largest in the city. The city's build year layer puts it in the 1970s. There are 37 private backyard pools inside the boundary and no shared one, because residents use the Sun and Sail Club instead, and the community feeds La Madera Elementary, Serrano Intermediate and El Toro High.

Across the whole city the general plan sets 3,756 acres to residential use and 3,065 acres to open space and parks, which is why so much of Lake Forest reads as green from the ridgelines.
