How Pheasant Creek Condos was built
Pheasant Creek sits off El Toro Road, which still carries the old name of the town. The settlement here was called El Toro from about 1863, and the name went national when the Marine Corps borrowed it in 1942 for the air station it built a few miles west on Irvine Company ground that held the largest lima bean field in North America. The 1940 census had counted 130 people in El Toro. The base closed on 2 July 1999.
The condominiums here were built in 1980. The Aliso Creek Trail runs directly across the road.
