Thirty eight homes on three streets, laid out on a tract map recorded in November 1977 and built out in 1978.

            Overview

            About Woodcrest

Woodcrest is 7.2 acres and 38 homes, one address to each parcel, on three streets that cover a fifth of a mile: Del Norte, El Dorado and San Joaquin. All three carry California county names, the lots run to about 0.15 acres, and the city zones the whole neighborhood Single Family Residential.

No park sits inside the boundary. Los Alamitos Unified School District covers the neighborhood and enrolls 603 students at Los Alamitos Elementary, 1,017 at Oak Middle, 1,031 at McAuliffe Middle and 2,809 at Los Alamitos High at 3591 Cerritos Avenue.

            History

            How Woodcrest was built

County records put all thirty eight homes in Woodcrest in 1978. Its three streets are Del Norte, El Dorado and San Joaquin, all California counties, picking up the scheme that runs through Greenbrook a short walk away where Shasta, Lassen, Sierra, Kings, San Mateo and San Joaquin do the same work. Del Norte is the far northwest corner of the state and El Dorado is the gilded one, the county named for the gold country.

By then everything around it was finished. Rossmoor, Ross Cortese's walled community of three thousand four hundred homes, had been complete since 1961. Dutch Haven followed in 1959 and 1960, Rossmoor Highlands in 1961, and Suburbia, New Dutch Haven, Greenbrook and College Park North through the middle and late 1960s. Woodcrest sits on seven acres, and every roof on it is the same age.

            The Woodcrest lifestyle

The city keeps 18 acres of public park across four neighborhood parks and five pocket parks. Little Cottonwood Park on Farquhar Avenue is the largest of them at 6.75 acres, with a basketball court, a sand volleyball court and a softball field. Coyote Creek Park opened in 2013 and turned a bare utility corridor into a 3.69 acre greenway along the Coyote Creek Channel.

Laurel Park runs to 4.33 acres on Bloomfield Street with a lighted multipurpose field and lighted tennis courts, and it has hosted the Los Alamitos Girls Softball League since 1974. The Aquatic Center, which the city leases and operates, is home to the USA Water Polo National Training Center and an outdoor 50 meter pool.

            FAQs

            Common questions about Woodcrest

            When was Woodcrest built?

In 1978. Tract 9978 was recorded with the county on 18 November 1977 by Hunsaker and Associates, surveyed by Tom R. McGannon, and all 38 parcels inside the boundary carry a build year of 1978. It is the newest of the city's neighborhoods that went up in one pass.

            How big is Woodcrest?

The boundary the city draws encloses 7.2 acres, one of the smallest of the sixteen it numbers. The county records 38 parcels and 38 addresses inside it, exactly one each, on lots of about 0.15 acres, with 0.20 miles of street.

What are the streets in Woodcrest?

Del Norte, El Dorado and San Joaquin, all three California county names. Greenbrook uses the same convention on eight of its ten streets.

Is Woodcrest in a flood zone?

The county's federal 100 year flood layer maps 12.6 acres inside the Los Alamitos city limit, and none of that acreage falls inside Woodcrest. Flood insurance requirements follow the federal map, so a lender is looking at the same layer.

            Which schools serve Woodcrest?

Los Alamitos Unified School District covers all of it. The district enrolls 603 students at Los Alamitos Elementary on Bloomfield Street, 1,017 at Oak Middle on Oak Street, 1,031 at Sharon Christa McAuliffe Middle on Cerritos Avenue and 2,809 at Los Alamitos High at 3591 Cerritos Avenue. All nine of the district's comprehensive schools have been honored as National Blue Ribbon Schools, California Distinguished Schools, or both. The district publishes no attendance boundary map, so confirm the assigned campus for a specific address with the district.
