How Brisa Del Lago I was built
Brisa del Lago means lake breeze, and the homes sit on the eastern shore of the lake they are named for. The Lago Santa Margarita is a made thing, not a natural one, dug as the centerpiece of the master plan and filled with 31 million gallons across 11.5 surface acres. SAMLARC says it was built to strengthen neighborly relationships while preserving the intimacy of a nature walk, with a curved shoreline short enough that people can wave at each other across the water. The path around it runs about 1.1 miles.
This was among the earliest housing on the plain. Its tract maps were recorded in 1985, ahead of the community's 1986 opening, which puts Brisa del Lago I in the first rank of buildings in a city that had been cattle range since James Flood and Jerome O'Neill bought the ranchos in 1882. The streets read like a field guide to the water they face: Via Garceta is the egret, Via Cerceta the teal, Via Lavendera the wagtail, Via Tortuga the turtle and Via Acuatica simply the water way. Whoever named them was looking at the lake.
