How Cantobrio III was built
Cantobrio III is the later and larger part of the Cantobrio idea, built at the end of the 1980s while the plain around it was filling in fast. The land had been cattle range under the O'Neill family since 1882, and before the ranch it was Acjachemen country, with the village of Alume standing between Trabuco Creek and Tijeras Creek inside what is now the city. The Trabuco Adobe was built near that village in 1810 as an outpost of Mission San Juan Capistrano.
That mission history is written into the street signs here. Santa Catrina, Santa Isabel, San Carlos, San Vincente, San Andres and Santa Elena run through the neighborhood, with Via Honesto among them, and the same saint naming carries across into the Arroyo Vista and Arroyo Oaks streets next door. These are single family homes on a little over twenty three acres, and the setting is the same one the mission fathers were looking at: an open plain under the Santa Ana Mountains.
