            Overview

            About Hunters Creek

Hunters Creek covers 29.86 acres and the city's address layer records 48 addresses inside the boundary across five named streets: Corte Azul, Paseo Zorro, Via Las Palmas, Via Primavera and Via Santa Maria. All 0.68 miles of street inside the boundary appear on the city's Private Roads layer, so the association maintains them and, under the recorded map, its storm drains too. The whole boundary is zoned Planned Community District, 29.8 acres of it, and the General Plan carries 25.8 acres as Very Low Density.

Four interior points were tested against the Capistrano Unified locator and all four returned the same three campuses. Harold Ambuehl Elementary takes TK through fifth grade with 324 students at a 23 to 1 ratio, 53 percent meeting the state standard in English language arts and 59 percent in mathematics, and it feeds Marco Forster Middle, which enrolls 930. San Juan Hills High School enrolls 2,641 and graduated 96.2 percent of its class. The Fire Hazard Severity Zone layer places 26.8 acres of the boundary in the High class and 3.1 acres in Moderate.

            History

            How Hunters Creek was built

Hunters Creek is a small run of large houses off Via las Palmas, first built in 1990 on lots of about half an acre. It sits in the hills east of the old town, on five private streets, on land that was cattle range and then citrus.

The valley's own creek is San Juan Creek, the drainage that gave it farmland and most of its trouble. The mission was founded beside it in 1776, the Great Stone Church went up between 1797 and 1806 and came down in the earthquake of 8 December 1812, killing forty worshippers at morning Mass and two boys in the bell tower, and the ruins are still standing. The 1860s brought smallpox, drought and a state property tax that finished the cattle industry and the ranchos together, which is how this side of the valley passed from grazing to farms to, eventually, subdivisions.
