How Fisher Park was built
The park and the neighborhood are named for Jack Fisher, a Santa Ana man who came home from the First World War a local hero and then spent his working life as the staff cartoonist for the Santa Ana Register, drawing the cartoons that campaigned for the Newport Harbor bonds in 1926.
The neighborhood that grew up around the park came later. Most of it was built in the 1950s, when the California ranch house was at its height, on lots noticeably larger than the Santa Ana norm, and the county records a median year built of 1953 here. The log cabin in Jack Fisher Park has been the neighborhood's front room for decades, and the neighborhood association still holds its quarterly meetings in it.
