Two hundred and twenty five acres on lots a 1907 replat had to renumber because the earlier map would not close.

            Overview

            About New Horizons

New Horizons covers 225.7 acres and the county records 911 parcels and 906 site addresses inside the boundary, at a median distinct legal lot of 6,634 square feet. Twenty seven named streets run 8.65 miles within it, among them Adrin Way, Dahl Ln, Edison Way, Gordon Pl, Hood Ave, Everglade St and Greenville St. The zoning layer gives 137.2 acres to single family residence and 13 acres to two family residence, with 7 acres of community commercial.

The city park and open space layers place no facility inside the boundary. Three campuses sit inside it on the city school layer, Diamond Elementary, Cristo Rey Orange County and the Sunflower Preschool and Kindergarten, and Santa Ana Unified covers all of the ground, with Lorin Griset Academy 0.02 miles away and Gerald P. Carr Intermediate 0.03 miles away.

            History

            How New Horizons was built

New Horizons carries one of the more optimistic tract names in Santa Ana, and its own build record shows why: the county counts 162 homes here from the 1940s and another 527 from the 1950s, out of 901 measured total, meaning roughly three out of every four houses standing today went up in the same twenty-year run that rebuilt most of the city after the Second World War, when veterans came home and the population swelled past 100,000 by 1960. Before that the ground was part of Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana and, like most of the county around it, farmland for decades after the rancho itself broke apart.

Greenville Street, in the neighborhood's northern half, points to an even older layer. Greenville was itself a separate farm settlement south of the city, known for its lima beans, and its country church of 1877 still stands where Greenville Street meets MacArthur Boulevard. That is the same pattern that produced New Horizons itself: open agricultural ground absorbed piece by piece into the growing city. Diamond Street and Diamond Elementary anchor the neighborhood's center today, on ground platted the same postwar way.
