How Estrella Homes was built
Estrella's seventy or so houses were finished between 1997 and 1999, at the far end of the Tustin Ranch build out. The streets carry the names of rivers a long way east of here, Brazos, San Saba and San Simon, along with La Raca.
The land under them was citrus until the 1980s and Irvine Ranch land before that. James Irvine and his partners assembled the ranch in 1864 by combining three adjoining Mexican land grants, about 185 square miles of Orange County. The Irvine Company decided in 1982 to build a planned community on the Tustin end of it, the county approved construction in 1986, and Tustin annexed the whole area that year, which is how the 92782 ZIP code came to exist.
