How Country Club was built
The oil field under the west of this community is called the Kraemer field, and so is the largest lease on the twenty two wells inside it, Kraemer Estates. Both go back to Daniel Kraemer, who in 1865 bought the 3,900 acre Ontiveros ranch in what is now Placentia.
The Yorba Linda Country Club gives the community its name, and the streets closest to it borrow the vocabulary: Club Terrace Drive, Fairway View Drive and Doral Court, the last one for a well known course elsewhere. Beyond the fairways the map turns into a tour of California, with Berkeley Way, Chabot Drive, Golden Gate Drive, Nob Hill Drive, Tiburon Terrace, Walnut Creek Road, Placerville Place, Dunsmuir Plaza, Glendale Drive and Furnace Creek Road, that last one taking the hottest corner of Death Valley and putting it on a shaded suburban street.
