How Kodiak Mountain was built
The streets are a world atlas of mountains. Kodiak Mountain Drive and Aleutia Way point at Alaska; Mount Hood Way, Mount Rainier Way, Mount Shasta Way and Mount Whitney Way take the American West; Blue Ridge Drive and Smokey Mountain Way take the Appalachians; and Elk Mountain Drive, Big Horn Mountain Way and Mount Triumph Way fill in the Rockies and the Cascades.
The ground below the names is ranch land. Camino de Bryant runs through the middle of the community and the single well recorded inside carries the Bryant Ranch lease name. John Bixby bought this end of Yorba Linda from Bernardo Yorba's widow in 1875 and called it Rancho Santa Ana, and his daughter Susanna Bixby Bryant inherited it in 1891 and worked it as a cattle ranch before turning part of it into a botanic garden. There are 426 homes on 350 acres here at a median lot above half an acre, and 30.6 acres of Chino Hills State Park fall inside the boundary.
