            History

            How Canyon Heights was built

Canyon Heights carries on a naming scheme that starts one street over. Greensboro and Londerry run straight through from neighboring Pointe Quissett, and the rest of the list keeps to the same map: Fairfield in Connecticut, Westfield in Massachusetts, Aberdeen in Scotland. Whoever was naming streets on this stretch of Nohl Ranch Road in the early 1980s was working from an atlas of the old country and the old colonies, and Chalice Drive is the one that breaks the pattern.

Anaheim Hills itself began on 30 October 1970, when Santa Anita Consolidated took deed to 4,200 acres of the Nohl Ranch to build a planned community, and a Texaco Ventures joint venture took over the residential land in August 1971. The first neighborhood, Westridge, opened in July 1972. The city bought a separate 300 acres for a tournament class golf course, which Richard Bigler laid out and which opened in 1972. Canyon Heights came late in that build out. Its seventy two houses date from 1983 to 1988, with 1985 the median year, and they sit on lots of about twelve thousand eight hundred square feet, roughly double what a standard Anaheim Hills lot runs. Twenty five of them have a pool. By the time these were finished the population of Anaheim Hills had already passed fifteen thousand and the city had annexed the Bauer, Oak Hills and Wallace ranches, adding another thirteen hundred acres at the eastern edge.
