            Heritage Place

A 26.3-acre community inside the Anaheim Colony Historic District, with three streets named for one railroad.

            Overview

            About Heritage Place

Heritage Place covers 26.3 acres in central Anaheim under the East Center Street Specific Plan, wholly inside the Anaheim Colony Historic District. Three of its streets, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe, carry the three names of one railroad, alongside Center, Chartres, City, Cypress, Kroeger, Lincoln, Olive, Pauline and Sabina. The county assessor records 55 parcels inside the boundary, 38 of them detached single family and 13 held as common area, with a median lot of 5,785 square feet, against 345 addresses on the city's layer, 185 of them carrying a unit designator.

The city's footprint layer measures 74 buildings here: 51 detached, 14 apartment and six multi-family, with 69 of them at two stories and a median 2,380 square feet of ground floor. The general plan designates 16.1 acres Residential Low Medium and 6.1 acres Residential Medium at up to 36 homes to the acre. Anaheim publishes attendance boundaries here, and every interior point tested returns Jefferson Elementary and Anaheim High, with a junior high line crossing the community.

            History

            How Heritage Place was built

Look at the streets inside this boundary and the whole Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway is written into them, three towns on one line, with Santa Fe Street running beside them. The railroad came through in 1887 and put Anaheim's fruit on trains bound east. Olive and Cypress name the trees, Lincoln and Center the civic grid, and Chartres, Sabina and Pauline are the small residential streets that filled in behind.

The houses here are newer than the ground under them. Most of Heritage Place was built between 1991 and 1993, an infill of townhomes and flats inside the Anaheim Colony Historic District, which the City Council adopted in October 1997 across 1.8 square miles matching the colony's original square between North, South, East and West streets and holding more than a thousand qualified historic structures.
