How Ridgeview was built
Ridgeview was laid out around golf. Fairway Lane, Golf Glen Drive, Lookout Lane and Oakview run through it, and the course they belong to is the Anaheim Hills Golf Course, which Richard Bigler designed and which opened in 1972 on three hundred acres the city bought from the developer specifically for it. Ridge Glen, Shady Valley, Stillwater, Stonebridge and Foxdale fill out the rest with the same soft English pastoral, and the association still runs tennis and swimming alongside.
Anaheim Hills itself began on 30 October 1970, when Santa Anita Consolidated took deed to 4,200 acres of the ranch to build a planned community, and a Texaco Ventures joint venture took over the residential land in August 1971. The first neighborhood, Westridge, opened in July 1972. Ridgeview is one of the larger boundaries in the hills at seventy acres, with a hundred and ninety five homes on lots of about eight thousand square feet and fifty five pools among them. The building record here runs from the 1970s with 1977 the median year, which puts it in the first decade of the community, close enough to the course that the fairway names were a fair description rather than a promise.
