            Seaside Village

Thirty acres of attached homes inside the coastal appeal zone, built out in five years and unchanged since.

            Overview

            About Seaside Village

Seaside Village covers 30.5 acres measured against the city's published boundary and holds 286 residential addresses among the 297 the address layer records inside the line. The assessor classes 287 of them as condominium units. Ten named streets serve the community across 1.19 miles, six of them circles, running Seabreeze, Moonmist, Seawall, Southwind, Waterfall, Poolside, Sailboat, Seaglen, Bayport and Oceangrove.

The whole boundary sits inside the city's Coastal Zone appeal jurisdiction, in appeal zone 4. City zoning and the general plan both read all of it as residential medium density. The assessor's median building is 1,487 square feet with a tenth to ninetieth percentile band of 1,430 to 1,705, a spread of under 300 feet across the community, and five addresses carry a pool, which is what one expects where recreation is held in common. Manning Park lies within 250 meters of the line and the city bus stop layer records four stops within the same distance.

            History

            How Seaside Village was built

Seaside Village is 286 homes on about 30 acres, all of them built between 1980 and 1984, arranged as a gated community with a pool, a spa and landscaped courtyards a short walk from the Pacific. The street names do not stray far from that idea, Seabreeze Drive, Moonmist Circle, Seawall Circle, Southwind Circle, Waterfall Circle and Poolside Lane.

The stretch of coast it sits above is the part of Huntington Beach that got famous. The first pier, a thousand feet of timber, was built in 1904, the same year Pacific Electric trains first reached the town by way of Seal Beach after Henry Huntington and his partners bought the Pacific City tract in 1903 and gave it his name. The first documented surfing in Orange County took place at the dedication of the concrete pier in June 1914, a demonstration of surf board riding by the former Waikiki resident George Freeth, and Duke Kahanamoku helped popularize the sport here from 1925. The first surfboard shop opened under the pier in 1956 and the city later registered Surf City USA as a trademark.

            When was Seaside Village built?

Between 1980 and 1984. The assessor record carries a year built on 287 homes inside the boundary and every one of them falls in the 1980s, with a median of 1981. The single recorded map over the ground, TR 9580, was filed on 15 December 1978.

            Are the homes condominiums?

            How big is Seaside Village?

The city's own polygon measures 30.5 acres. The acreage attribute on the same HOA record reads 35.36, which does not agree with the shape the city draws, so the measured figure is the one used here. The address layer records 297 addresses inside the boundary, 286 of them residential.
