            History

How Crest De Ville was built

Crest de Ville is one of the guard gated communities on the Salt Creek side of the city, and two thirds of its 133 acres are held as open space rather than housing. That proportion is not accidental. When the Laguna Niguel Corporation commissioned the Viennese architect Victor Gruen in 1959 to plan the new town, the plan set aside close to a third of the developable land for parks and open space, and the habit stuck through the AVCO years and after.

The streets here are English in flavor, Hastings, Cardiff, Camberley, New Haven, Bridington, Westcliff, Mandalay, Belaire, Belcrest, Charmony and Fairmont, with South Peak carrying the spine. The city's record runs the years built from 1986 to 1992 with a median of 1989, and 161 of the homes date to that one year, so most of Crest de Ville arrived at once.
