How Crown Royale was built
Every street in Crown Royale runs the same joke to its end: Kings Road, Kings Pointe, Palace Court, Castle Hill, Royale Ridge and Crown Royale itself. The crown that started it is Crown Valley Parkway, the road that was completed in 1964 to link Interstate 5 in Mission Viejo to the coast at Dana Point and which still bisects the city.
The Laguna Niguel Corporation bought in from 1959, and AVCO Community Developers took over in 1971. Crown Royale is early AVCO era work by Laguna Niguel standards: the city's record runs its years built from 1980 to 1990 with a median of 1981, and 58 of its homes carry that year. Two thirds of a mile of the Niguel Trail runs inside the boundary.
