The hills themselves are gentle, running from 357 feet to 501 feet, and the community is gated and on private streets across 131 acres.
The Laguna Niguel Corporation bought the Daguerre share in 1959 and had the Viennese architect Victor Gruen draw a town plan of 7,100 acres, and AVCO Community Developers took over in 1971. Rolling Hills belongs to the decade that followed: the city's record runs its years built from 1978 to 1996 with a median of 1981, and 78 homes carry that year. Nearly 50 acres of the boundary are held as open space, and the association's own record with the city lists a pool, a spa, basketball and volleyball courts, trails and a barbecue area.
