            About Finisterra Condo

Finisterra covers 24.2 acres and records 214 addresses, every one with a unit designator, on a single parcel. Nine named ways run 1.35 miles inside the boundary and all of them are Spanish place names: Barbate, Chiclana, Chipiona, Finisterra, Lentiscal, Mazagon, Redondela, Rota and Trocadero. The general plan carries 21.9 acres at 6.5 to 14 homes an acre with 2.3 acres as recreation and open space.

The flood layer places 22.4 acres in zone X. Capistrano Unified serves the boundary, and the district's address locator returns Philip J. Reilly Elementary at 421 students, Fred Newhart Middle at 1,105 and Capistrano Valley High at 1,991 from every interior point tested.

            History

            How Finisterra Condo was built

Of the three Mission Viejo neighborhoods carrying the name Finisterra, land's end, this is the plain version and the oldest, its homeowners association created in 1978, a couple of years ahead of Alta Finisterra and Baja Finisterra elsewhere in the city.

Finisterra sits in the hills above Lake Mission Viejo, and its first residents moved in as the lake itself was taking shape: construction on the lake began in 1974, and it opened to its members on June 3, 1978, the same year Finisterra's own association was formed. The 214 units here are recorded as a single condominium lot with nine private driveways, several of them carrying the names of towns on Spain's Atlantic coast, among them Rota, Chipiona and Chiclana.

            FAQs

            Common questions about Finisterra Condo

Why does Finisterra show only one parcel?

Because Tract 8773 was recorded for condominium purposes over a single lot in 1977. The homes are units within that lot, so the county's parcel layer records one parcel while the city's address layer records 214 addresses, all with unit designators.

Are the roads inside Finisterra private?

Yes. Tract 8773 records the interior ways as private driveways rather than dedicated streets, so the county road system never took them in. The nine of them run 1.35 miles inside the boundary.

            When was Finisterra built?

The ground was subdivided in June 1977, on one recorded map surveyed that January by Jack G. Raub, registered civil engineer 14749, while the land was unincorporated county territory. A correction to the map was recorded in October 1979.

What do the street names mean?

They are Spanish places. Barbate, Chiclana, Chipiona, Mazagon, Redondela and Rota are Spanish coastal towns, and Finisterra takes its name from Cape Finisterre in Galicia.

            Which schools serve Finisterra?

Capistrano Unified, and the district's address locator returns Philip J. Reilly Elementary with 421 students, Fred Newhart Middle with 1,105 and Capistrano Valley High with 1,991 at every interior point tested.
