            History

            How Stoneridge was built

Stoneridge was one of the last large neighborhoods built in Mission Viejo. Building began in 1997 and ran to about 2000, three decades after the first families moved into the city, and it went up on 176 acres of ridge ground that earlier developers had left alone. That makes it 469 homes at roughly a third of an acre apiece, more ground per home than all but a handful of the city's neighborhoods.

Most of the street names fall into two groups and both groups are literal. Castle Rock, Cobblefield, Driftstone, Oakstone, Rockrose, Sandstone and Ridgeway describe the ground itself, and Alpine, Bouquet, Briarcliff, Poplar, Skyline, Sunrise and Walnut describe what sits on it or what you see from it. For a hilltop development finished at the end of the century, the naming is unusually plain.

Does Stoneridge back onto O'Neill Regional Park?

Tract 15544 draws the community's boundary as the city limit of Mission Viejo, with unincorporated county territory on the far side, and names O'Neill Park beyond that line. Confirm the frontage for a specific address before it matters to an offer.

How much open space is in Stoneridge?

The city's general plan carries 43.4 of the 176 acres as recreation and open space, second only to Pacific Hills among the fifty communities in this guide, with 132.5 acres at up to 3.5 homes an acre.

            When was Stoneridge built?

Between 1996 and 1999, on seven recorded county tract maps all signed by James R. Crawford, licensed land surveyor 4965, and all filed in the City of Mission Viejo.

            Is Olympiad accessible from Stoneridge?

Tract 15544 relinquishes all vehicular access rights along Olympiad to the City of Mission Viejo except at approved access locations, so the community meets that road at controlled points rather than along its length.
