How Farralon Ridge was built
Farralon Ridge went up in Talega between 2001 and 2003. The homes sit on short courts hung off a single spine street, Camino Flora Vista, and the court names read like a description of what you can see from up there: Corte Mira Vista, Corte Tierra Bella, Corte Tierra Cielo, Corte Del Oro. The name of the neighborhood itself is a version of farallon, the Spanish word for a rock pillar or a sea cliff, which is the sort of word a builder reaches for when the lots run along the top edge of a slope.
The trail along the back of Farralon Ridge carries the older name in the watershed. Cristianitos means little Christians, and the canyon it refers to, now inside Camp Pendleton, is California Historical Landmark No. 562: on 22 July 1769 Father Francisco Gomez baptized a dying child there, the first Christian baptism in Alta California. A second marker for it is set where anyone can walk up to it, at Casa Romantica, the Spanish Colonial Revival house Ole Hanson built for himself in 1927 while he was selling San Clemente as a Spanish village by the sea.

Lifestyle
The Farralon Ridge lifestyle
San Clemente keeps ten beaches of its own along the shore, from North Beach past the pier to Riviera, and the city's Marine Safety division staffs them. The pier itself carries restrooms, metered parking, fire rings and the Amtrak and Metrolink platform at its foot.
The city publishes five trail networks that run from the sand up into the canyons and along the ridgelines. Bikes are welcome on all of them, electric bikes are not allowed on the Beach Trail, dogs are welcome on a leash, and horses are permitted on the Forster Ridgeline, Prima Deshecha and Cristianitos trails. City parks are open from 6 am to 10 pm without a reservation unless a group needs a permit.
