            History

            How Signal Pointe was built

Signal Pointe is a gated pocket of detached houses built between 1992 and 1996 on the inland side of Marblehead, with a pool and spa of its own. It is one of seven sub associations under the Marblehead Community Association, alongside Highland Light Estates, Highland Light Gate, the Summit at Highland Light, Highland Light Village, Faire Harbour and New Providence. The tract names look east to the Atlantic while the streets inside Signal Pointe are gemstones in Spanish: Calle Jade, Calle Opalo, Calle Onice and Calle Aquamarina, with the cul de sacs Corte Amatista, Corte Esmeralda and Corte Topacio.

All of Marblehead was once the Reeves Ranch, 1,150 acres in the hills above town. Brigham Young University bought it in 1968 and proposed thousands of dwellings on it, with three lakes and horse trails. By 1972 the hilly 750 acres east of the freeway, which is the ground Signal Pointe stands on, was grazing land that had earlier served as a motorcycle park, and part of the 300 acres on the ocean side was leased out as a tomato field. The Fujita Corporation bought the ranch in 1974, and the Lusk Company took it in the 1980s and began on the inland half.

            Lifestyle

            The Signal Pointe lifestyle

San Clemente keeps ten beaches of its own along the shore, from North Beach past the pier to Riviera, and the city's Marine Safety division staffs them. The pier itself carries restrooms, metered parking, fire rings and the Amtrak and Metrolink platform at its foot.

The city publishes five trail networks that run from the sand up into the canyons and along the ridgelines. Bikes are welcome on all of them, electric bikes are not allowed on the Beach Trail, dogs are welcome on a leash, and horses are permitted on the Forster Ridgeline, Prima Deshecha and Cristianitos trails. City parks are open from 6 am to 10 pm without a reservation unless a group needs a permit.
