How Windflower was built
Windflower is the common English name for the anemone, and the Greek anemone means daughter of the wind, from anemos, because the petals scatter in a breeze. The nine streets keep to the theme without repeating it: Camomile, Fuchsia, Indigo, Kalmia, Liana, Tamarac, Trillium, Tulip and Wisteria, flowers and shrubs from four continents.
The community was built in 1990 and holds 240 homes on 19.5 acres on the ocean side of the 73 Toll Road, east of Canyon View Park. By then Aliso Viejo had been building for eight years: the county approved the master plan in 1979 and the first homes went on sale in March 1982, with the first residents moving in that November.

FAQs
Common questions about Windflower
How big is Windflower, and how many homes are there?
Measured against the boundary the City of Aliso Viejo publishes, Windflower covers 19.5 acres. The city's address layer records 240 addresses inside it and its parcel layer records a single parcel underneath them all, which works out to twelve addresses to the acre.
What form does the housing take?
The city's record points to attached housing. All 240 addresses sit on one mapped parcel, one of only eight such communities among the fifty here, and the ground is zoned Residential Medium Density, which the municipal code describes as covering detached and attached single-family homes on smaller lots, duplexes, townhomes, apartments and condominiums at up to 18 units to the gross acre.
Which schools serve Windflower?
Capistrano Unified's own address locator returns Wood Canyon Elementary for TK through grade 5, then Don Juan Avila Middle and Aliso Niguel High, and it returns the same three at every interior point across the boundary. Don Juan Avila Middle is 0.63 miles away and enrolled 863 students on the 2024-25 federal count, and Aliso Niguel High is 0.91 miles off with 2,563. Aliso Viejo Middle at 0.54 miles is the nearest campus and is not the assignment.
When was it subdivided?
Tract 13242 was recorded on 27 April 1989 and covers the whole boundary. Jan M. Fuller, licensed surveyor 4541, signed it, along with four other maps in this city recorded the same day and filed consecutively in the same book. A recorded map dates the subdivision rather than the buildings on it.
