How Fountain Valley Mobile Estates was built
Two naming schemes run side by side through this park, and once you notice them you cannot stop. The birds are Crow, Gannet, Macaw, Osprey, Parrot, Pigeon and Roadrunner. The trees are Citrus, Hornbeam, Laburnum, Pecan and Sumac. There are 192 homes across nearly twenty one acres, and the buildings date to 1965.
That year matters. Fountain Valley had incorporated only eight years earlier, in 1957, when 189 registered voters were on the rolls and the place was still the farm town of Talbert. The council refused to let anyone build until the master plan was complete, the first tract finally broke ground in 1962, and a mobile home park in 1965 was still going up among fields rather than among subdivisions.
