            History

How Rancho La Siesta Mobile Estates was built

The name means the rest ranch, and the streets keep the countryside going: birds on Albatross, Gold Finch, Hawk, Magpie and Myna, trees on Balsa, Catalpa, Eucalyptus and Ironwood. There are 181 homes across more than eighteen acres, and the buildings date to 1965.

In 1965 that was an accurate description of the surroundings. Fountain Valley had incorporated only eight years earlier, in 1957, when 160 of its 189 registered voters cast a ballot and 91 said yes. The council would not let a tract break ground until every element of the master plan was adopted, the first one did so in 1962, and this was still farm country with houses appearing at its edges.

How big is Rancho La Siesta Mobile Estates?

It covers 18.59 acres with 181 homes on the city's address record, the second largest boundary of the 28 Fountain Valley communities on this site behind Fountain Valley Mobile Estates at 20.86 acres.

When was Rancho La Siesta Mobile Estates built?

The county assessor dates the park to 1965. The land beneath it was recorded much earlier, as Tract 667 in 1924 and its resubdivision Tract 892 in 1928.

Huntington Beach Union High School District's boundary map places the park in Fountain Valley High, which enrolls 3,171.

Where does the name Fountain Valley come from?

The city's own 2045 General Plan records that the land was farmed with water from artesian wells, and that is where the name comes from. The name is on the record earlier than the city: Tract 667, recorded in 1924 over this ground, is titled Fountain Valley Farms, and the 1928 map that replaced it records a pumping lot and a well serving the farm blocks.

How are the streets at Rancho La Siesta named?

For birds and trees. Magpie carries 41 of the 181 addresses, Albatross 37, and Hawk, Gold Finch and Myna follow, alongside Catalpa, Eucalyptus, Ironwood and Balsa. Fountain Valley Mobile Estates, the city's other mobile home park on this list, uses the same scheme.
