            History

            How Amberwood was built

Amberwood was built in 1973 and added to through the rest of the decade, finishing around 1979 with roughly 230 attached homes on 16.9 acres. It went up on the west side of Fullerton at a moment when the city was converting the last of its working groves into housing, and the homes were designed around private front patios rather than back yards, which is what the land budget allowed.

The city took its name from George H. Fullerton, president of the Pacific Land and Improvement Company, a subsidiary of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. What followed was sixty years of Valencia oranges and other citrus, and later oil, and the street name Avenida Selva, the forest avenue, belongs to the housing that replaced the groves rather than to anything that grew here.

            FAQs

            Common questions about Amberwood

            How big is Amberwood?

Amberwood covers 16.9 acres in Fullerton. The city's address record holds 230 addresses inside the boundary and its parcel record holds three parcels.

            When was Amberwood subdivided?

Tract 8331 was recorded with Orange County on November 29, 1973, prepared by Hall and Foreman Inc. with George D. Shambeck as the licensed surveyor. A recording date fixes the lots; it is not the year any individual home was finished.

            Which school district serves Amberwood?

Amberwood sits inside Fullerton Elementary and Fullerton Joint Union High. That sets the district but not the campus, because neither district publishes an attendance boundary map, so confirm the campus assignment with the district.

What kind of housing is in Amberwood?

The city's record holds 230 addresses across three parcels, none of them carrying a unit number, and the city zones the whole neighborhood R-3 Limited Density Multiple Family Residential. That combination describes attached housing.

Are the streets in Amberwood private?

The city's private street layer places 0.75 miles of private street inside the boundary, and the address record names only three streets here: Avenida Selva, Conejo Lane and Gilbert Street.
