How Orchard Lane was built
Orchard Lane is the smallest of the fifty Fullerton communities on this site: 29 homes on five acres, all of them on Persimmon Place, built in 1973 and 1974. They are single story and unusually consistent, most of them 1,617 square feet with three or four bedrooms around a courtyard, which is what happens when a builder puts one plan up twenty-nine times.
The name and the street name are the same idea twice. This was orchard ground, and a persimmon is a fruit tree, so a development of the 1970s named itself after what it replaced. Fullerton grew for most of a century on Valencia oranges and other citrus, and neighborhoods like this one are where the last of the groves went.
