How Skyview was built
Skyview is one address on Los Alisos Boulevard holding 261 homes, every one of them numbered as a unit, spread over twenty two acres with a strip of open space along the edge. Los Alisos is the sycamores, the same word that names Aliso Creek a few ridges west, and it points at what grew in these canyon bottoms before anyone built here.
All of it was Rancho Trabuco. The name comes from a blunderbuss a soldier of the Portola expedition lost near the creek in July 1769. Santiago Arguello was granted two square leagues in 1841, John Forster added three more in 1846, and James Flood and Jerome O'Neill bought the combined ranchos in 1882 and ran cattle into the 1920s. Grain was dry farmed on the Trabuco Mesa from the 1890s, the Marines used the lower mesa as a bombing range from 1943, houses in the master planned community started in 1986, and Skyview itself was built in 1999.
