Tierra Montanosa is the mountainous land, Tierra Plano the flat land and Tierra Seguro the safe land, three descriptions of ground stacked one on the next. The fourth, Rancho Trabuco, names the land grant the whole neighborhood stands on.
The homes were built in 1994 in a Spanish idiom on the north side of the city, on about seventeen acres with almost a fifth of it open space. Children go to Melinda Heights Elementary, Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate and Trabuco Hills High, and residents share the master association's lake, Beach Club and parks.
