            History

How Tustin Grove Homes was built

Whoever named the streets here was paying attention. Tustin Grove's courts are named after citrus varieties: Clementine, Dancy, Eureka, Honey, Kinnow, Lisbon, Minneola, Moro, with Almond Grove, Cherry Grove and Chestnut alongside them. The homes went up in 1996 and 1997, on land that had grown the real thing.

Citrus was what Tustin lived on. C.E. Utt, who came to town as a boy in 1874, remembered that there were only two or three orange orchards of about an acre each, owned by C.W. Wilcox, George Freeman and A.D. Stine. Dr. W.B. Wall arrived from Mississippi in 1875 for the express purpose of growing oranges, put twenty acres in almost immediately and eventually planted his whole property to citrus. Utt called him the leading pioneer of the orange industry in this section.

            The Tustin Grove Homes lifestyle

The city runs seventeen parks of its own. The largest is Veterans Sports Park at Tustin Legacy, 31.8 acres on Valencia Avenue with lighted ball diamonds and multi-use play fields, followed by Tustin Sports Park at 22 acres on Robinson Drive.

Citrus Ranch Park holds 16.9 acres off Portola Parkway, where the city keeps a hilltop gazebo and a lemon grove knoll. Cedar Grove Park on Pioneer Road covers 10.7 acres and carries a nature trail and a grass amphitheater.

Old Town repays a walk. The sidewalk tour along Main Street and its side trips runs a little over two miles past buildings that go back to the 1880s, and the Tustin Area Historical Society keeps its museum at 395 El Camino Real.
