            Overview

            About Hawks Pointe

Hawks Pointe is 86.3 acres on the western ridge and only about half of it is zoned for housing. The city gives 45.03 acres to PRD-O Planned Residential Development with an Oil Overlay and then sets aside 16.32 acres as Open Space Wildlife Habitat, 13.9 as Open Space Public Park, 5.95 as Open Space Hillside Area and 4.65 as private open space, with 0.58 acres of public land on top. Inside are 234 addresses on 248 parcels across thirteen streets, among them Eagle Pointe Drive, Muir Trail Drive, Sage View Court, Timberlyn Trail Road and Wilderness Circle.

The terrain shows in the hazard layers: 86.1 of the 86.3 acres sit in the Very High fire hazard severity class, the liquefaction zone covers 27.7 acres and the landslide zone 22.5. The schools nearest the boundary belong to Buena Park's districts rather than Fullerton's, with Charles G. Emery Elementary 0.86 miles out at 646 students and Gordon H. Beatty Middle 1.04 miles at 641, and Sunny Hills High 1.58 miles at 2,337.

            History

            How Hawks Pointe was built

When Hawks Pointe was first proposed the 87 acre site was not in Fullerton at all: it sat in unincorporated Orange County. Only about half the ground was ever zoned for housing, and the rest was left as slope and open space, wildlife habitat and public park. The houses were built by Centex Homes and sold through 2002 and 2003.

The street names are all borrowed from the country the tract was cut into rather than from anywhere else: Wilderness, Rimrock, Sage View, Sagewind, Timberlyn Trail, Eagle Pointe and Muir Trail, that last one for John Muir, the Scottish born naturalist whose campaigning created Yosemite National Park. Highlander and Cumberland are the two that look back to Scotland and the English border instead.
