How The Cedars at Turnleaf was built
Read the street signs at the Cedars and you get an orchard list: Almondwood, Avocado, Pearblossom, Plum, Poplar, Holly, Ironbark and Oak Tree. That is not a coincidence of taste. This corner of north Fullerton, bounded by Harbor Boulevard on the west and Bastanchury Road on the south, was the Bastanchury Ranch, a Basque family holding that grew from sheep in the 1860s into a citrus operation billed in the 1920s and early 1930s as the largest orange grove in the world at 2,600 acres. What people now call Sunny Hills is the same ground.
The Cedars is the larger half of the gated Turnleaf development, 152 homes across thirty seven acres. The association covers 212 homes in all and was created in 2002, and the houses here followed immediately after. The lots are modest and the plans are two story, which is what land in north Fullerton cost by then.
