How El Dorado Townhomes was built
El Dorado's homes went up over a long stretch, from 1987 into the early 2000s, and its streets run alphabetically through surnames: Hiskey, Matthews, Newman, Osterman, Phillips, Reynolds, Schooley, Tantlinger, Thompson, with Orchard Drive in among them as a nod to what used to be here.
That naming is the Tustin Ranch convention. When the community was laid out, the streets were given the names of civic leaders and of Tustin servicemen who died in war. Eighteen streets in Tustin Ranch honor the second group, and in 2017 the Tustin Community Foundation's Patriots and Pioneers program began holding a ceremony on each of those streets on the anniversary of its namesake's death, with a procession by American Legion Post 227 and a bugler playing Taps.
